Women's Hockey Routs St. Olaf

Box Score

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's hockey team hosted St. Olaf College at Hunt Arena Tuesday evening. The Falcons scored five goals on their way to a lopsided 5-1 victory over the Oles.

Sophomore goaltender Angie Hall was in net for the Falcons and she stopped 10 of the 11 St. Olaf shots and freshman goaltender Kendra Carlson was in goal for the last 9:30 of the game. Carlson stopped the only shot she saw.

The Falcons did not wait long to score the first goal of the game. At the 5:29 mark, junior defenseman Paige Johnson buried a shot past the St. Olaf goaltender to give UWRF the early lead. Sophomore forward Carly Moran and freshman forward/defenseman Taylor Ramthun assisted Johnson on the goal. The goal was Johnson's second of the season.

UWRF controlled the first period as the Falcons outshot the Oles 15-5, but with 10 seconds left to go in the opening period, St. Olaf put a shot past Hall to knot the score at 1-1.

This would be the last time that St. Olaf was tied with UWRF because the Falcons took control of the game in the second period.

At the 10:13 mark in the second period, the Falcons went on the power play. UWRF was able to get off multiple shots, but could not cash in during the one-player advantage. 10 seconds after the power play ended, senior forward Chloe Kinsel got a shot past the St. Olaf goaltender to put the Falcons up 2-1. Kinsel's goal was her ninth of the season and junior defenseman Carina Randazzo assisted on the goal.

Not long after Kinsel's goal, the Falcons scored another to go ahead 3-1. Junior forward Dani Sibley received a pass from Moran and Kinsel, which led to a breakaway goal by Sibley, her second goal of the season.

After two periods, the Falcons led the winless Oles 3-1, and the Falcons led in the shots department 28-11.

The third period saw the Falcons tack on two more goals, with both coming from Moran, who had two assists in the previous two periods. That goal brought Moran's goal total to seven on the season.

Head Coach Joe Cranston was pleased with the team's effort: "We worked really hard tonight and played a good team game."

The victory over St. Olaf is the Falcon's fourth straight win, bringing their record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC. The series record between the two squads is now 8-0 in favor of UWRF.

The Falcons are on a hiatus until Friday, December 4 when they travel to Superior, Wis. to take on the UW-Superior Yellowjackets.
