It was a close one throughout with UW-Eau Claire coming up on top with a 69-64 victory. Eau Claire was led by a 27 point performance by Courtney Lewis to outduel the UW-River Falls Falcons.
It was a game of runs. The Falcons had the first big run. River Falls saw themselves leading by eight with 10:28 after a
Hayley Rau layup. Eau Claire would make a run of their own taking the lead with a little over three minutes left of the half via a Ellen Blacklock layup. Eau Claire would head to the locker room at the half up by three, 27-24.
The Falcons would fight back in the second half and hold the lead for a majority of the half. River Falls had a lead with less than 2:00 left, but then an Eau Claire finishing run took the game away. Eau Claire scored nine straight points stretching from the 1:26 mark to just 17 seconds left of the game. Seven of those nine points were scored by Lewis.
The last points in the game, the sealing points for Eau Claire, came from Lewis as she sunk to free throws with five seconds left to make it a five point, 69-64 victory for Eau Claire.
Blacklock was also integral in the game for Eau Claire as she notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Richell Mehus led the Falcons with 18 points and
Kate Theisen was right behind with 16.
The victory brings Eau Claire to 15-9 on the season. River Falls falls to 4-11.
The Falcons next play on Saturday at UW-Platteville. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
