Hall Records First Career Shutout As Women's Hockey Wins 1-0 Over Lake Forest

Kocina Scores Game's Lone Goal

The UW-River Falls Falcons topped the Lake Forest Foresters 1-0 in a rematch of last years NCAA Quarterfinal game.

UWRF topped the Foresters a season ago to make it to the NCAA Frozen Four and came out with a win again today on an afternoon that saw Angie Hall record her first career shutout.

"It was just a hard fought battle today and we were able to win enough of the battles at the end to win the game," said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston. "Lake Forest is a very good team and this is a great win for our program."

The first period saw no goals and just one penalty on each team. Early on in the period the Falcons controlled the puck in the Foresters zone and had some scoring chances just miss. The Foresters best opportunity came on a three on one chance with just under 10 minutes left in the period but they fired a shot just high.

With 4:13 left to go in the first period LFC went on the games first power play but UWRF was able to kill it off with some big saves from Angie Hall. With just four seconds left in the period UWRF went on the power play.

UWRF recorded six shots on goal with Hall saving all ten LFC shots.

The second period started off with the Foresters killing off the Falcons power play but right after both teams were back on full strength at 2:11 Dani Kocina knocked in a rebound goal after a Dani Sibley shot went off the pipe. The goal gave Kocina seven on the season and the assist was number 14 of the year for Sibley.

With 8:27 to go in the period the Falcons again had a great scoring chance when chaos broke out in front of the net but LFC goalie Allie Carter was able to corral the puck. At 16:13 UWRF went on their second power play of the game. With just 21 seconds left on the power play what originally looked like a Falcon goal with the light and horn going off was waved off. LFC went on to kill the penalty. Right after at 18:26 the Foresters went on a power play of their own.

The second period ended with UWRF taking eight shots on goal while only giving up one shot to LFC.

The third period started off with UWRF killing off the penalty and Karleigh Wolkerstorfer getting a breakaway chance that was gloved by Carter. At 6:52 LFC went on the power play but UWRF did a great job of clearing the puck out of their zone and killed it off.

"Our penalty kill was very good today," Cranston said. "We did not give them any good chances during their power plays."

The Foresters had a shot go off the pipe with just over seven minutes left that would have tied the game had it gone in. With just 2:55 left in the period UWRF went back on the power play after a LFC penalty stopped a Carly Moran breakaway. The Foresters killed the penalty but were not able to produce the game tying goal in the last 55 seconds of play.

UWRF took 14 shots in the third period and finished with 28 in the game while going 0-3 on the power play. LFC put 5 shots on goal in the period while Hall stopped all 16 LFC shots in the game. The Foresters went 0-3 on the power play.

Lake Forest drops to 10-6-3 on the season. The Falcons still have not lost a game since Dec. 10 and improve to 18-3-1 on the season. UWRF will next play Wednesday evening against St. Catherine University out at Hunt Arena with the drop of the puck set for 7:05 p.m.
