The UW-River Falls Falcons topped Hamline University 5-1 in the first game of the day with
Katie Thompson hitting her eighth home run of the season but fell 4-1 in the second game.
UWRF will finish their regular season Sunday when they head to UW-Superior with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. Currently UWRF sits in fifth place in the WIAC with a 5-9 conference record two games ahead of seventh place UW-Stevens Point who would own the tiebreaker over the Falcons. UWRF is 19-19 overall this season.
First Game- UWRF 5, Hamline 1
The game started as a pitching duel between
Brooke Lauritzen for the Falcons who went six innings while only giving up five hits and struck out three batters. Sarah DeMars went the distance for Hamline.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning when Thompson smacked a homerun in the fourth bringing in
Abbie Morris as well to go up 2-0. Laurtizen got on base and was brought in by a
Michelle LaCasse single. Later in the inning
Amber O'Connell notched two RBIs to bring in
Callie Looft and
Erin Ralph who were both pinch running to go up 5-0 over Hamline.
Hamline got on the board in the sixth inning for the only run given up while Laurtizen was on mound which was not earned. LaCasse pitched the seventh inning for the Falcons and did not give up a hit. UWRF recorded six hits in the game with no players having a multiple hit game. Laurtizen improved to 9-7 on the season.
Second Game- Hamline 4, UWRF1
Despite eight hits in the game the Falcons fell 4-1 with Casey Anderson improving to 13-4 on the season for Hamline. Hamline scored first with a run in the fourth inning which was answered by the Falcons in the fifth inning when
Shannan Borchardt doubled to bring in Ralph.
The Pipers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-1. Morris took the loss on the mound to fall to 8-9 on the season. LaCasse and
Lauren Janssen each pitched an inning with LaCasse giving up no hits and Janssen giving up just one.
