ST. PETER, Minn (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer team lost a close non-conference match to MIAC opponent Gustavus-Adolphus College 1-0.
 
Defense was the name of the game for both teams, as there were only three shots by Gustavus-Adolphus and none for the Falcons. At the 15:45 mark, one of the three Gustie shots found the back of the net to make the score 1-0. One minute later, UWRF gained control of the ball and sophomore forward Kayla Windingstad got a shot off, but was just high of the crossbar.
 
At the 23:30 mark, freshman Maggie Koehler shot the ball on goal but the Gustie goalkeeper made the save. She could not control the ball off the save, and sophomore Carrie Anderson got the rebound and shot it wide of the goal. UWRF could not capitalize on two solid chances.
 
UWRF would put one more shot on goal before the first half finished. Senior forward Lizzy Bruder would get a shot on the Gustie goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper would make a save on Bruder.
 
To begin the second half, the Gusties started off fast by getting two shots on goal in the first five minutes. UWRF junior goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski would stop those two shots by the Gusties. Cimochowski was great in net all afternoon, as she stopped eight of the nine shots on goal, but it was not enough as the Falcons fell to Gustavus-Adolphus College 1-0.
 
Gustavus stymied the Falcons all afternoon. UWRF was only able get four shots off, with two of those getting to the goalkeeper.  Bruder, Windingstad, Anderson, and Koehler were tallied with one shot apiece. The Falcons fell to 3-4-1 on the season.
 
UWRF looks to get back on track on Saturday, September 26 when they travel to La Crosse to take on WIAC rival UW-La Crosse. The match is scheduled to start at 1pm.
