Sibley Notches Hat Trick in Rout of Concordia-Moorhead

Box Score

Moorhead, Minn. (uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls women's hockey team battled the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead for the second time in as many days Saturday afternoon. The Falcons rode a four goal first period and a hat trick by Dani Sibley to a 10-2 win, improving their season record to 11-2-1.

After ending in a 0-0 tie on Friday night, it took just 19 seconds for the Falcons to break through on Saturday. River Falls senior Chloe Kinsel put the puck in the back of the net for her 15th goal of the season as the Falcons jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead.

The Falcons hot start continued when junior forward Karleigh Wolkerstorfer found the back of the net at the 6:42 mark for her fourth goal of the season.  She was assisted on the goal by Sibley and Dani Buehrer as the visitors went ahead 2-0.

Less than 3 minutes later, the Falcons scored their third goal of the period. Carly Moran was set up by Sibley and Kinsel for her 10th goal of the season.

The Falcon momentum was stymied a bit when freshman Ashley Effertz was called for checking at 9:57, sending the Cobbers on a power play. The Cobbers took advantage of the advantage when Jessica Kongelf  found the net to cut the Falcon lead to 3-1.

But the Falcons gained the momentum back shortly thereafter and would never look back as they rolled off seven straight goals.  Wolkerstorfer kicked off the run when she scored her second goal of the period at the 13:24 mark.  Effertz and Sibley were credited with assists, Sibley's third of the period.

UW-River Falls carried a 4-1 lead into the second stanza as the Falcons came out of intermission on fire. Just 21 seconds into the period sophomore Amy Auran found the back of the net for her third goal of the season, putting UWRF ahead 5-1.

After Auran's goal, the Falcon momentum was once again slowed by penalties as back to back penalties on the Falcons put the Cobbers on 2 consecutive power plays. River Falls killed off both penalties and allowed for the offense to explode for four more goals in the period. 21 seconds after the Falcons killed off the Cobber power plays, at the 10:20 mark of the second period, Sibley scored her fourth goal of the season. Sibley's goal put the Falcons ahead 7-1 with just under half of the game left to play.

The Falcon offense was far from done in the second period. Kinsel scored her second goal of the game two minutes and 11 seconds after the Sibley goal to push the Falcons ahead 8-1. Less than 30 seconds later, Sibley again found the net to put the Falcons ahead 9-1.

Dani Sibley's incredible second period continued when she completed her first career hat trick at the 16:52 mark. Sibley found the back of the net off an assist by Jillyane Gilbert to put the Falcons up 10-1. The Falcons outshot the Cobber 29-4 through the end of the second period.

The third period was relatively quiet for the Falcons but the Cobbers added a goal late to make the final score 10-2.

The Falcons are back in action at Hunt Arena on Tuesday, January 12
against College of St. Scholastica.  Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
