VIDEO: Falcons Tie Blugolds at Home

River Falls, Wisc. (uwrfsports.com) – On a brisk afternoon, UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire clashed in a WIAC matchup that ended in a double overtime draw by a score of 0-0. In the second overtime, an Abby Soderholm shot went off the cross bar in the 108th minute that sealed the tie for both schools.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • UWRF registered the first three shots in the game. The Falcons got two shots from Rachel Windingstad and one by Kayla Windingstad that went wide and high to keep the game tied early.
  • The next four shots were all Blugold shots, three of which were saved by senior goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski. The first half ended with the score tied 0-0 and with four shots by each team.
  • Cimochowski played at a high level in the second half. The senior was faced with three shots in seven minutes, all of which were saved by her to keep the tie game.
  • The Falcons kept the pressure on the Blugolds in the second half. Rachel Windingstad kept firing shots with Soderholm joining for three shot attempts in a three minute period.
  • In the first overtime, only two shots were attempted in the 10 minutes, both by the Falcons. Kayla Windingstad fired a shot on goal which was saved, and Kenzie Weisman had a shot go wide and the teams headed for a second overtime.
  • In the second overtime, it was the Blugolds that put the pressure on the Falcons. Three shots were fired in, two of them going high and the final one being saved again by Cimochowski.
  • With the shot by Soderholm that went off the cross bar, the Falcons and Blugolds secured the draw. The Falcons have now tied twice this season, both by scores of 0-0.
  • In the game, the Blugolds had the advantage in the shots with 13 total, nine of which were on goal. UWRF totaled 10 shots, two of them on goal.
  • Cimochowski played extremely well inbetween the pipes for the Falcons stopping nine shots on goal. She now has three shutouts this season, two of which were in victories.
  • Rachel Windingstad led the Falcons with four shots in the game. Kayla Windingstad registered two, Soderholm finished with two, Jasmine Hunn registered one shot, and Weisman had the final shot for UWRF.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Madeline Haworth led the Blugolds with three shots, all three being on goal. \
  • Sami Matuszak had two shots for UW-Eau Claire, both of her shots were on goal as well.
  • The Blugolds got 110 minutes of shut out time from their goalkeeper Sammie Lefaive, she had two total saves in the game.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons continue their WIAC schedule on October 22nd on the road against UW-Stevens Point (4-11, 0-4 WIAC). Last year the Falcons defeated the Pointers by a score of 4-1. The Falcons currently sit at 1-3-1 in the WIAC, good enough for the sixth and final playoff spot.
