Women's Hockey Opens Up Conference Season With Win

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team started the WIAC conference season with a 2-1 win over UW-Stevens Point Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • At 14:46 in the first period, the Falcons got on the board with the first goal of the game coming from Carly Moran on a pass from Paige Johnson and Hailey Herdine
  • The goal was on the power play after Cara Lemitande was called for checking.
  • The second period was quiet for both teams with neither team scoring.
  • Moran scored the eventual game winning goal and her second goal of the night 27 seconds into the third period putting the Falcons up 2-0.
  • The Pointers cut the Falcon lead in half with a third period goal at 10:20.  Ali Biagini found the back of the net on a pass from Ellie Punnett. 
  • Angie Hall was between the pipes for 59:41 minutes.  She had 12 saves total and got the win improving to 4-0.
  • The Falcons had 27 total shots.  Moran lead the team with six, Lydia Wagner and Haley Nielsen each had four.
  • The Falcons scored one power play goal out of six chances.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Goaltender Sydney Conley was in goal for 58:27 and had 25 saves on the night for the Pointers.
  • The Pointers had 13 shots.  Meredith Ingbretson led the team with three total.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will be back at home to take on the Pipers from Hamline Tuesday evening.  Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
