WHITEWATER, Wis. (uwrfspots.com) - UW-River Falls Softball (7-16, 0-4 WIAC) dropped two WIAC games against UW-Whitewater (14-7, 3-1 WIAC) on the road at Van Steenderen Complex at UW-Whitewater on Monday afternoon.

The doubleheader was postponed until Monday due to rain, the Falcons put up a combined seven hits in the two games.

Game 1: UW-Whitewater 4Â UWRFÂ 0

In game number one, Whitewater struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a single to left field that scored two runs, which made the score 2-0. Starting pitcher
Michelle LaCasse struck out two hitters in the inning.

The Warhawks homered down the left field line to make the score 3-0 at the end of the second inning.
Ali Murray singled the Falcons first hit of the game in the top of the third inning. Whitewater added one more insurance run in the bottom of the third inning and made the score 4-0.

The Falcons scattered two hits against UW-Whitewater, but were unable to get anyone across home plate.

After the third inning, LaCasse did not allow a run in her remaining time in the circle. She allowed just one hit while striking out four Warhawks in the game. Sophomore
Maddie Studnicka came in relief for LaCasse and pitched one inning and allowing no hits. LaCasse takes the loss for the Falcons and moves her record to 4-6 on the season.

Game 2: UW-Whitewater 12 UWRF 2

UW-River Falls fell behind early after a two-run home run by UW-Whitewater in the bottom of the first inning, and used a five run second inning to extend the lead to 7-0.

In the top of the third inning,
Hannah Zurn smashed a solo home run to left field and got the Falcons on the board. The home run was Zurn's second career homer and first of the season.

Whitewater added insurance runs in the bottom of the third inning making the score 12-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Zurn struck again with her second home run of the game, again to left field, making the score 12-2. Zurn finished the game a perfect 2-2 with two RBI.

The game ended due to the 8-run-rule and the Falcons fell to 0-4 in the WIAC.

Next up for UW-River Falls will be their home opener at new Ramer Field. The Falcons will meet UW-Eau Claire (9-9, 0-0 WIAC) for a doubleheader. UWRF last met the Blugolds in the 2015 WIAC tournament first round and won by a score of 1-0.
