UWRF Battles Gustavus to Draw

River Falls, Wisc. (uwrfsports.com) – UW-River Falls and Gustavus Adolphus battled to a double overtime draw in the Falcons second home game of the year. The Gusties had five shots on goal, all saved by the Falcons to secure the first tie of the season moving UWRF to 0-2-1.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons had opportunities in the first half of play with junior midfielder Abby Soderholm fired a shot that hit the crossbar at the 9:20 mark.
  • After the first half of play, the Falcons and Gusties were knotted in a 0-0 tie. The Falcons had attempted five total shots with one being on goal. The Gusties had attempted five shots as well, two of which were on goal.  
  • The Gusties continued to pressure the Falcons in the second half. Emily Skogseth hit the post but couldn't find the back of the net.
  • Each team was flagged with a yellow card. Abby Soderholm received a yellow card in the 87th minute while Maddison Ackiss received one for the Gusties in the 110th minute.
  • In regulation and two 10 minute overtimes, the Gusties attempted five shots on goal with 15 total. UW-River Falls shot 10 shots with four being on goal. Abby Soderholm led the Falcons with five shots with two being on goal.
  • UWRF had three corner kicks in the game with all three coming in the second half.
  • Erica Cimochowski suffered an injury and had to leave and freshman Haley Crosby took over for the remainder of the second half and both overtime periods.
  • In the second overtime, Gustavus nearly had a shot at a goal, but the ball dribbled wide of the net with less than five minutes remaining.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Becker saved four shots on the night in 120 minutes of play.
  • Maddison Ackiss attempted four shots with three of them being on goal.
  • The Gusties attempted eight shots in the second half of play, the game high for any period.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Falcons will continue to face teams from the MIAC in their upcoming games. UWRF will take on Hamline University (2-0, 0-0 MIAC) on the road on September 10 at 1 p.m. The Falcons will travel to take on the University of St. Thomas (3-0, 0-0 MIAC) on September 14 at 4 p.m.
