Women's Hockey Contains St. Thomas For Win

River Falls, Wis.  (uwrfsports.com) – Carly Moran and Madi Nolan each scored two goals for UW-River Falls, which helped them get out to a 4-0 lead on St. Thomas.  They would then grind out a 6-2 win over the Tommies.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. THOMAS
  • St. Thomas controlled the play early, but it was UW-River Falls who scored the first goal.  Carly Moran scored her 6th of the season from Hailey Herdine and Izzy Brosseau.
  • Moran would strike again a few minutes later.  Off of a small scramble out in front of the St. Thomas net.  Carly Moran would spin around, and put a shot through 3 St. Thomas players for her 2nd of the game.
  • Just over a minute later, a lead pass from Haley Nielsen would catch Tommies with to many skaters up, and the Falcons would go back the other way with a 3-1 break, Madi Nolan would snap a shot that would beat Torpy glove side for a 3-0 lead.
  • 59 seconds into the second period, UWRF would push the lead to 4-0.  Amy Auran would circle the net, then drive straight at Torpy.  Auran's shot was blocked, but Madi Nolan put home the rebound for her 2nd of the game.
  • St. Thomas would crack the scoreboard almost half-way through the second as Allison Parnell and Allison Borgstrom would score :37 apart to cut the lead in half.
  • In the third period, the Falcons would push the lead back to 3 as St. Thomas turned the puck over in their own zone.  Callie Hoff passed out of the corner to Maddy Illakainen who would score her first of the year.
  • Late in the game, Amy Auran would get behind the Tommies defense, and beat Torpy 5-hole for a 6-2 lead.
  • Tatyana Delaittre would make 30 saves for UW-River Falls.
 
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Allison Borgstrom led the offensive shot attack for St. Thomas with 8 shots.
  • Mackenzie Torpy made 24 saves in goal.
  • Estee Frantz was 9-14 on face-offs.
 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
This Saturday the Falcons return to the ice in a conference match-up against UW-Eau Claire at Hunt Arena.  The puck drops at 2:05 pm.
