HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-EAU CLAIRE
  • The first period found a majority of the action being played in the UW-River Falls zone.  The Blugolds were flying everywhere, and managed to capitalize on a turnover behind the Falcons net when Elizabeth Bauer walked out front, and roofed one over Angie Hall's left shoulder for a 1-0 UW-Eau Claire lead.
  • The Falcons kept the deficit 1 by killing off two Eau Claire penalties late in the period.
  • The Falcons finally broke through with their first goal early in the second period on the power play.  Callie Hoff threw the puck on net, and it appeared that Blugold goaltender Erin Connolly had the puck covered, but it suddenly squirted out behind her and Carly Moran tucked it into the open net to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Just over six minutes later the Falcons would strike again on the Power Play.  Hailey Herdine would corral a loose puck on the boards, and pass it across to Haley Nielsen whose shot was blocked by the Connolly, but Madi Nolan would put home the rebound, her 3rd of the season.
  • In the 3rd period the Falcons would get a big insurance goal.  Haley Nielsen would take the puck up ice, and both defenseman for UW-Eau Claire converged on her.  Nielsen managed to pass the puck to Maddy Illikainen who beat Erin Connolly blocker side for her 2nd goal of the season.
  • Late in the period, there was a flurry of penalties on both sides.  One of those occasions resulted in a 5-3 advantage for the Blugolds.  The Blugolds pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker.  The Falcons killed of the first of the two, and then Carly Moran took a shot from the face off circle in her own zone, and put into the middle of UW-Eau Claire's goal for a short handed, empty net goal which made the score 4-1.
  • Angie Hall made 27 saves in net for the Falcons.
