Blaine, MN - (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team traveled to Blaine, MN to take on Bethel Saturday night. Eddie Matsushima scored a goal and added an assist to help the Falcons try to come back from an early 3 goal deficit, but the Falcons could not complete the comeback and fell to Bethel 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Falcons came out and sustained some pressure early which led to Bethel taking the first penalty of the game just before the 8 minute mark of the period. The Falcons were unable to capitalize on the man advantage and just after the power play had to kill off a penalty of their own.
• The two teams would exchange power plays just after half way in the period but the score remained tied at 0.
• Bethel would break the scoreless tie just 7 seconds after killing off one of their penalties when Jackson Purvis would find the back of the net.
• Just over a minute later Bethel would strike again to push their lead to 2-0, when Michael Pehler would beat Zach Quinn. The first period would end with the Falcons trailing 2-0.
• The Falcons came out in the second period and peppered the Bethel goalie early, but it was Bethel that broke through with their third goal of the game just under 6 minutes into the period to take a 3-0.
• The Falcons would dominate the rest of the period and it would finally payoff with 1 minute left in the period. Charlie Singerhouse would get the Falcons on the board with his 3rd goal of the season. He was assisted on the goal by Eddie Matsushima and Peter Karavos.
• The Falcons out shot Bethel 18-8 in the second period but trailed 3-1 heading into the 3rd period.
• The Falcons would come out firing in the third period firing 12 shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the period.
• At the 12:16 mark of the period Cayden Cahill was called for hooking. On the ensuing power play, Eddie Matshushima raced in for a short-handed unassisted goal, to bring the Falcons within 1. The goal was Matshusima's 9th of the season.
• The Falcons would continue to pressure and pulled their goalie for the extra attacker with 1:26 left in the 3rd period. The Falcons were unable to get the equalizer. 
• Zach Quinn made 18 saves in the loss for the Falcons. 

 
THE OPPOSITION

• Justin Bonanno, Jackson Purvis, and Michael Piehler scored goals for Bethel.
• Joe Sheppard made 31 saves in net.

The Falcons will travel to take on UW-Eau Claire on Thursday Jan. 18th, the puck drops at 7:05 pm.
