Women's Basketball Suffer First Loss of 2018

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team suffered their first loss since November after falling 62-69 to No. 14 UW-Oshkosh at home.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Titans got on the board first and maintained a shots lead for the first six minutes of the first quarter. 
  • With 4:26 remaining in the quarter, Danielle Lachmiller drove in a layup to tie the game 10-10 but the Titans responded with back to back three pointers to finish out the first quarter up 16-14. 
  • The two teams traded baskets in the second quarter but the Titans stayed on top and had a six point advantage heading into the halftime break after a five point run. 
  • The Falcons came out of the break on fire starting the half with a twelve point run that gave them their first lead of the game.  At the 5:21 mark in the third, the Falcons carried a 37-31 lead. 
  • The Titans answered with a nine point run that gave them back the lead 40-37.   They finished the third quarter with a seven point lead, 50-43. 
  • In the fourth, the Falcons looked like they were going to come back after Brynn Liljander sank a three and followed it with a free throw with eleven seconds remaining.  They were only down three points with seconds remaining but two missed layups forced the Falcons to foul the Titans and make them shoot from the line. 
  • The Titans finished out the game with four made free throws that gave them a seven point win. 
 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Taylor Karge had a game high 21 points on 6-16 shooting.  She was 2-5 from beyond the arc and 7-8 from the charity stripe. 
  • Crystal Pearson came off the bench for 12 points and six rebounds.  She was 4-6 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line. 
  • As a team, UWRF shot 21-47 (44.7 percent) from the floor, 4-16 (25 percent) from the arc and 16-20 (80.0 percent) from the line.


THE OPPOSITION
  • Eliza Campbell was the leading Titan scorer with 20 points.  She was 6-15 from the floor and was 6-6 from the line. 
  • The Titan bench scored 37 points with Melanie Schneider and Karsyn Rueth each hitting double digit numbers.
  • Schneider scored 17 points on 5-10 shooting.  She was 6-7 from the line and added five rebounds.
  • Rueth was 4-7 from the floor making three shots beyond the arc.
  • From the floor, the Titans shot 22-54 (40.7 percent) and made eight of their 16 three pointers.
  • The Titans out rebounded the Falcons 38-28.  They picked up 15 offensive rebounds and forced he Falcons to 12 turnovers, which they turned into 12 points. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons remain at home on Wednesday as they host UW-LaCrosse in a 7 p.m. game.  The Eagles are 10-5 on the season and 3-1 in WIAC play.
