Women's Basketball Defeats UW-La Crosse in Dominating Fashion

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball took down UW-La Crosse in dominating form as they won the WIAC conference game 72-54 at Page Arena Wednesday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • For the first four minutes of the game the two teams traded possession of the lead. Brynn Liljander hit a three with 6:15 remaining and the Falcons took the lead and never looked back. 
  • At the end of the first period the Falcons led 25-20.
  • The Falcons ended the second period with an 11-2 run and led the Eagles 46-32 at the half.
  • In the third, Falcons led by as much as 24 points.  The Eagles were able to get as close as 18 points with less than a minute remaining in the quarter. 
  • The Falcons broke out to their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter going up 72-47. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Jaycie Gerding connected on five three point shots to lead the Falcons with 19 points.  She was 6-9 from the floor and added three rebounds and one steal. 
  • Taylor Karge was 8-14 from the floor and made two three point shots to give her 18 points.  She led the team in rebounds with eight. 
  • Crystal Pearson came off the bench for ten points.  She was 4-5 from the floor.
  • As a team, UW-River Falls shot 29-57 (50.9 percent) from the floor. The Falcons were 9-21 (42.9 percent) from the three point line and connected on 5-7 (71.4 percent) from the line.  

THE OPPOSITION
  • The Eagles shot 19-55 (34.5 percent) from the floor and connected on eight threes on 21 attempts in the game.  They were 8-12 from the charity stripe.
  • UW-L had two players in double figures. Their leading scorer was Ava Kramer with 18 points.  Kramer came off the bench to shoot 7-14 from the floor.  She was 4-7 from beyond the arc and added five rebounds.
  • Elise DeNoyer was 5-15 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line for 14 points. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons who are now 4-1 in WIAC conference play travel to UW-Stout Saturday to take on the Blue Devils in a 3 p.m. game.
