Women's Basketball Wins In Overtime

MENOMONIE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – the UW-River Falls women's basketball team picked up a high scoring overtime 94-89 win over UW-Stout on the road Saturday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons got on the board first and maintained a lead through the first half of the game. 
  • Taylor Karge Finished the first quarter with a three point shot that game the Falcons a six point lead. 
  • The Falcons started the second with and eight point lead but the Blue Devils tied it up 26-26 with just over two minutes remaining after a 13 point run. 
  • A layup by Jaycie Gerding propelled the Falcons to a six point lead that would give them a 32-28 lead at the halftime break. 
  • In the third the Falcons put up 27 points and extended their lead to as much as 15 at the end of the quarter.
  • The Blue Devils came back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game up 74-74 with 2:49 left to play. 
  • The two teams traded points for the next two minutes and the game tied up five times.
  • Crystal Pearson scored seven points in the final minute and a half.  She hit a layup with 36 seconds left to tie it up 79-79.  With eight seconds remaining she drove in to tie it 81-81 and then forced overtime play when she made a layup with three seconds remaining to tie it up 83-83. 
  • The two teams traded shots to start the overtime period.  At the 1:07 mark, Liljander hit a three and Taylor Paulsrud stole the ball to give the Falcons possession at the fifty second mark. 
  • Liljander was fouled twice and extended the Falcon lead to five. 
  • The Blue Devils stayed in contention making a layup with 10 seconds remaining. 
  • Taylor Paulsrud was fouled and made her two free throws to give the Falcons the 94-89 lead.
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Four Falcons made it into double digit points with three of them making it into the twenties. 
  • Brynn Liljander led the team with 26 points.  She was 7-19 from the floor and made four three point shots.  She was 8-10 from the free throw line and added six assists and a steal to her day.  
  • Crystal Pearson was 8-11 from the floor for 23 points.  She was 6-7 from the free throw line and added four rebounds. 
  • Hayley Rau scored 20 points on 7-12 shooting.  She was 4-4 from the free throw line and made two shots beyond the arc.  She completed a double double by picking up 14 rebounds.  She added four blocks and a steal. 
  • Taylor Karge put up ten points on 3-8 shooting.  She was 2-2 from beyond the three point line. 
  • From the floor UWRF was 30-67 (44.8 percent) and connected on nine three pointers in seventeen attempts.  At the free throw line the Falcons were 25-28 (89.3 percent).

THE OPPOSITION
  • The Blue Devils were led by leading scorer of the game Kyncaide Diedrich.  She had 34 points in the contest on 12-22 shooting.  She was 5-8 from beyond the arc and 5-7 from the charity stripe.  She added eleven rebounds for a double double day. 
  • Bailey Diersen was 5-18 from the floor for 16 points.  She was 6-6 from the free throw line and added four steals. 
  • Haley Seifert had 15 points on 4-8 shooting.  She made two three point shots and was 5-8 from the free throw line. 
  • Amber Fabeck was 2-5 from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw line for ten points.  She added eight rebounds. 
  • From the floor, Stout was 29-80 (36.3 percent) and nailed nine three pointers in the contest. As a team the Blue Devils were 22-32 (68.8 percent) from the charity stripe.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons finish out the first half of the WIAC season as they host UW-Eau Claire January 24th in a 7 p.m. game at Page Arena.
