Men's Hockey Falls on the Road to UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team traveled to Stevens Point, Wisconsin to take on conference rival UW-Stevens Point on Saturday night. The Falcons jumped out to an early lead on goals by Eddie Matsushima and Thomas Clayton, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Pointers 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Pointers came out and tested the Falcons early, but the defense blocked shots and Zach Quinn stopped the rest to keep the Pointers off the scoreboard.
  • At the 9:29 mark of the period Thomas Clayton got the Falcons on the board first, when he found the back of the net. The goal was his 4th of the season and he was assisted on the goal by Jessie Brown and Aussie Miller.
  • The Falcons would push their lead to 2-0 just over 3 minutes later when Eddie Matsushima found the back the net. The goal was Matsushima's 10th of the season and he was assisted on the goal by Charlie Singerhouse and Christian Hausinger.
  • Charlie Singerhouse was called for interference 45 seconds after the Falcons went up 2-0 and sent the Pointers to their first power play of the game. The Pointers would take advantage of the power play and cut the Falcon lead to 2-1. 
  • Zach Quinn and the defense would step up to preserve the Falcons' 1 goal lead as the 1st period ended. Quinn made 16 saves in the first period. 
  • The Pointers came out in the second period and put pressure on the Falcons, but Zach Quinn stopped the first 5 shots he saw and was helped by the post on one to keep the Falcon lead at 2-1.
  • The Pointers broke through just over half way mark of the period and tied the score at 2.
  • The Falcons would go on their first and only power play of the game at the 11:26 mark of the second period, they would manage to get 2 shots on net during the power play but could not break the 2-2 tie.
  • The Pointers would get a power play opportunity late in the period when Eddie Matsushima was called for hooking, but the Falcons and Quinn killed the power play off to keep the score tied at 2.
  • 20 seconds after their power play ended the Pointers would break the 2-2 tie at the 17:45 mark of the period when Colin Raver found the back of the net.
  • The third period would see end to end action with both teams getting shots on net and neither team able to score.
  • The Pointers got the lone power play of the period just over the half way mark but the Falcons killed the penalty off to remain down just 1 goal.
  • The Falcons would pull their goaltender late in the third period but could not tie the game and the final score was 3-2.
  • Quinn made 33 saves in net for the Falcons. 
 THE OPPOSITION
  • Max Milosek made 18 saves for the Pointer in net.
  • Tanner Karty, Logan Fredericks, and Colin Raver all scored goals for the Pointers.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The UW-River Falls Men's hockey team returns home Wednesday January 24th to host Hamline University in a non conference match up. Puck drop at Hunt Arena is set for 7:05pm.
