Hall Sets D3 Women's Hockey Record as Falcons Roll Past St. Olaf

Northfield, MN. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team traveled to take on St. Olaf on Wednesday night. The Falcons scored 8 straight goals to roll over St. Olaf 8-1, Carly Moran, Hailey Herdine, and Payton Rudiger all tallied two goals each for the Falcons. Angie Hall got the victory for the Falcons in net. The win was her 76th career victory, which sets the record for most wins ever by a goalie in D3 women's hockey.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. OLAF
  • St. Olaf started the scoring in the opening minute of the first period when Johanna Glaaser found the back of the net to put St. Olaf up 1-0.
  • The Falcons would answer at the 3:41 mark of the period when Payton Rudiger would find the back of the net for her 5th goal of the season. She was assisted on the goal by Jamie Bird and Haley Nielsen.
  • The Falcons would go ahead 2-1 late in the first period when Callie Hoff would find the back of the net. She was assisted on the goal by Haley Nielsen and Carly Moran
  • The first period ended with the Falcons up 2-1. The Falcons out shot the Oles 13-5 in the period.
  • The Falcons would add to their lead in the second period with 4 unanswered goals. The first goal was scored just 3:27 into the period. Carly Moran would put the Falcons up 3-1 with her 21st goal of the season.
  • Payton Rudiger would score her second of the game just over half way through the period to put the Falcons up 4-1. She was assisted on the goal by Kathryn Larson and Julia Stelljes.
  • Hailey Herdine put the Falcons up 5-1 late in the period, on her 6th goal of the season.
  • Kathryn Larson would finish the scoring up for the Falcons in the second period when she found the back of the net with just 49 seconds left in the period. 
  • The second period ended with the Falcons up 6-1. The Falcons out shot the Oles 15-6 on the period.
  • The Falcons would add two power play goals in the third period to put the game away. The first was just over half way by Carly Moran, her 22nd goal of the season. The second was by Hailey Herdine in the last minute of the period, to make the final score 8-1.
  • Angie Hall made 13 saves in net for the Falcons to get the win. With the win Hall breaks the record for all time wins for a goalie in D3 women's hockey with 76.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Johanna Glaaser scored the lone goal for the Oles.
  • Mae Morris made 33 saves in net for the Oles.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
After the weekend off, the Falcons will return home to host St. Scholastica on Feb. 6th  at Hunt Arena. Puck drops at 7:05pm.
