Moorhead, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team played their first game of the new year on Friday night as they traveled to Moorhead, MN to take on Concordia. The Falcons exploded for 6 goals in the second period, en route to a 10-4 victory.
Carly Moran and
Callie Hoff both scored two goals for the Falcons and
Angie Hall made 17 saves in net to secure the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons would open the scoring in the first period at the 3:26 mark when Haley Nielsen would score an unassisted goal. The Goal was her second of the season to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons would dominate the whole first period outshooting the Cobbers 17-6 but the Cobbers would tie the game at 1, late in the period when Sage Barta's shot found the back of the net.
- The Falcons came out fast in the second period and it lead to an offensive explosion of 5 straight goals and 6 overall in the period.
- The Falcons' first goal of the period came early in the period at the 1:29 mark. Maddy Illikainen scored her 4th goal of the season to put the Falcons up 2-1. She was assisted on the goal by Kora Torkelson.
- Just under 5 minutes later Hailey Herdine would score her first goal of the season to put the Falcons up 3-1.
- The Falcons would then score three goal in just over 3 minutes. The first was scored by Sam Young, who was assisted on the goal by Madi Nolan and Haley Nielsen. The second goal was by Callie Hoff assisted by Amy Auran. The third goal was scored by Carly Moran, who was assisted by Payton Rudiger. With just over 8 minutes left in the period the Falcons had pushed their lead to 6-1.
- The Cobbers would answer on the power play at the 13:36 mark of the period to make the score 6-2.
- Before the second period ended the Falcons would add one more goal, this time Carly Moran took advantage of the power play to find the back of the net to put the Falcons back up 5.
- The third period would see the Falcons score three more goals. Callie Hoff would score her second of the game to push the score to 8-2 early in the third. Her goal was followed by goals from Kora Torkelson and Jessie Anderson to help the Falcons secure the 10-4 victory.
THE OPPOSITION
- 4 different players scored for the Cobbers, but Emily Goff lead the way with a goal and an assist on the evening.
- Brittany Boss and Amy Jost were in net for the Cobbers, combing for 35 saves on 45 shots.
LOOKING AHEAD
The UW-River Falls women's hockey team will go for the weekend sweep against Concordia Moorhead on Saturday afternoon, the puck drops in Moorhead at 2pm.
