Women's Hockey Gets Weekend Sweep at Concordia

Moorhead, Minn.  (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team looked for a weekend sweep of Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons had another offensive explosion on Saturday afternoon scoring the first 6 goals of the game before going on to win 10-3. Callie Hoff and Sam Young each had a pair of goals for the Falcons on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons dominated the action early firing over 10 shots on the Cobber goaltender. Callie Hoff would find the back of the net just over 12 minutes into the first period with her 10th goal of the season to put the Falcons up 1-0.
  • The Falcons would continue to pressure firing multiple shots at the Cobber net. The pressure led to the Falcons getting their first power play of the game. Kora Torkelson would need just 22 seconds of power play time to put the Falcons up 2-0. The goal was Torkelson's 6th of the season and she was assisted on the goal by Maddy Illikainen and Hailey Herdine.
  • The first period ended with the Falcons up 2-0 and outshooting the Cobbers 19-4.
  • For the second straight game the Falcons would put up a big number of goals in the second period. Sam Young go the first of the 5 goals in the period just 35 seconds into the frame, to put the Falcons up 3-0. 
  • Julia Stelljes would add her first goal of the season just over 2 minutes later on the power play to put the Falcons up 4-0.
  • Carly Moran would score her 16th goal of the season at the 8:31 mark of the period and Callie Hoff would add her second goal of the game just under 2 minutes later to put the Falcons up 6-0.
  • After a Cobber goal at the 17:31 mark to bring them within 5, the Falcons' Kathryn Larson scored with just 14 seconds left in the period to put the game out of reach at 7-1.
  • The Falcons finished the game in style as they scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the third period go up 10-1. Madi Nolan started the scoring just 38 seconds into the period with her 7th of the season. Sam Young would add her second goal of the game on the power play at the 3:29 mark of the period. Jessica Bird would finish the scoring for the Falcons with a power play goal at the 5:24 mark of the period with her 2nd of the season.
  • The Cobbers picked up two goals late to make the final score 10-3.
  • Tatyana Delaittre made 10 saves in net to get the win for the Falcons and Leighton Rockensock made 4 saves in net for the Falcons. 
THE OPPOSITION
  •  Amy Jost made 26 saves in net for the Cobbers including 17 in the first period.
  • Amanda Flemming tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the Cobbers on the afternoon.
LOOKING AHEAD
The UW-River Falls women's hockey team returns home to play an exhibition game against the Korean National team on Sunday afternoon at Hunt Arena. Puck drop is set for 4 pm.
