RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - UW-River Falls had their three-game win streak snapped by Augsburg on a windy Wednesday night at David Smith Stadium. The Auggies scored four goals in the first half, including three in the first 17 minutes, to take a 6-0 victory over the Falcons.
The Auggies got on the attack early, as Ashley St. Aubin scored her 12th goal of the year in the ninth minute after cutting through the left wing for an impressive finish.
Amanda LaDue had five saves in goal for the Falcons in the first half, including a fingertip save against St. Aubin in the opening minutes. However, the Auggies responded with goals from Gabriela Encarnacion in the 11th minute and Jada Olson in the 17th minute to make the game 3-0. Both goals came off of shots from St. Aubin that were kicked in off of rebounds from her teammates. St. Aubin finished the first half with one goal, two assists and nine shots, including five on goal. Olivia House added a shot to the top left corner after cutting to the middle in the 38th minute, and the Auggies found themselves ahead 4-0 at the half with a 17-1 shot advantage.
UWRF came out more aggressive in the second half and attacked early.
Camryn Altnau had two breakaway shots at goal, and
Kari Rollo was also denied by Auggies' goalkeeper Emily Chapman. Chapman made three saves in the second half and only faced six shots total. Augsburg outshot UWRF 26-6 and didn't allow the Falcons to have a corner kick. LaDue dropped to 6-2 on the season in goal after making nine saves.
The Falcons are 8-3-1 after the loss and continue with conference play on Saturday when they travel to UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. The Pointers are 8-1-2 overall and haven't lost a game at home this season.
