RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - Three second-half goals from UW-Stevens Point were too much for the Falcons to overcome in a 3-0 loss in Stevens Point on Saturday. UW-River Falls was forced to play defense almost the entire first half as the Pointers registered 12 shots in the opening 45 minutes, while the Falcons didn't attempt a single shot. Five crucial saves from
Haley Crosby was enough to keep the game scoreless at the half.
The Pointers got on the board first in the second half when Jacqueline Aleman took a corner kick that found Kortnee Hass for her fourth goal of the year in the 51st minute.
Camryn Altnau put the first shot on goal for UWRF a minute later on a shot that was saved by Lexi Pawlowski. UW-Stevens Point responded by going on the counterattack in the 54th minute, and Olivia Bohnert put a through ball to Maddy Hardyman for a shot from eight yards out that put Point up 2-0. Hass scored her second goal of the day only a minute later on a cross from Meaghan Ambelang, and the Pointers went up 3-0 in only a five-minute stretch.Â
Rachel Windingstad and
Erika Lagoon also registered shots on goal, but the Falcons couldn't find the back of the net and lost their first WIAC game of the year. The Pointers outshot UWRF 21-4, including 11-3 on goal. UWRF didn't take a single corner kick for the second-straight game, and Crosby finished with eight saves. UW-Stevens Point also had 10 more fouls than UWRF in the second half.
The Falcons are now 8-4-1 and 2-1 in the WIAC and will play a nonconference game against Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. on Wednesday. The Vikings are 0-12 this season and have only scored one goal.
