RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team used a strong offensive performance across the board to pick up a 103-77 win at Central College on Saturday. The Falcons hadn't scored over 100 points since they defeated Robert Morris 103-98 in 2016.
Matt Keller led the way with 17 points for the Falcons, including 10 in the first half. Keller was an efficient 5-7 from the field and 3-5 beyond the arc, including 4-4 on free throws.
Austin Heidecker also contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Julian Jackson had career highs in points, rebounds and blocks with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
However, the player with the best all-around game was senior guard
Clay Seifert. He was 4-7 on three pointers and dropped 14 points on nine total shots. Seifert also had five assists, two rebounds and no turnovers. Freshman
Tate Hebrink also started his first game as a Falcon by dishing out 4 assists.
UWRF led 54-33 at the break and would lead by as much as 35 points in the second half. There were 17 Falcons that saw the court on Saturday, and the bench contributed 43 points. Sophomore
Jalen Greenlee had 15 points in 19 minutes and made all five of his shots, including shooting 3-3 on three pointers. Transfer
Cole Murray had 13 points on 5-8 shooting in only six minutes of action.
The Falcons outshot Central in every category, shooting 54 percent overall and an incredible 56 percent on three's and 93 percent from the free throw line. Central especially had problems in the first half when they shot only 29 percent overall and 22 percent on three pointers. UWRF never trailed by more than three points and led the rest of the way after Seifert hit a three pointer with 16 minutes remaining in the first half. A 22-10 run after the Falcons were ahead 29-17 helped stretch the lead to over 20 points, and UWRF kept the foot on the pedal to win by almost 30 points. Seth Wood was the leading scorer for Central, scoring 15 points on 5-17 shooting from beyond the arc.
UWRF will travel to Colorado Springs next weekend to take part in the Colorado College Classic. They will face Johnson & Wales University at 5 p.m. next Friday.
