EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (uwrsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team picked up its second WIAC conference win defeating the 10
th ranked UW-Eau Claire Blugolds 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire.
It was the Falcons who scored the first goal of the day in the first period.
Abigail Stow scored on a pass from
Erica Schramel and
Julia Stelljes. The Blugold outshot the Falcons in the first period 13-10.
Twenty seconds into the second period Hanna Zavoral scored for the Blugolds tying the game up 1-1. The Falcons applied the offensive pressure and finally broke through Erin Connolly scoring the eventual game winning goal at 12:34.
Bella Wagner scored and was assisted on the play by
Kathryn Larson.
Neither team would score in third period. The Falcons had a power play opportunity when Ella Ierino was called for checking but they were unable to capitalize on it. Overall, the two teams were zero for seven on power play opportunities.
Tatyana Delaittre got the win for the Falcons. She had 24 saves in her sixty minutes of play and only gave up one goal. Erin Connolly took the loss giving up two goals but securing 29 saves.
The Falcons move to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in WIAC play. They will face off against St. Olaf at home Tuesday Nov. 20
