Women's Hockey Shuts Out Cobbers

RIVER FALLS, Wis.  (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls swept non-conference foe Concordia College (Minn) Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.  The Falcons secured the series sweep with a 4-1 win.  
 
THE RUNDOWN

What Happened:
  • The Falcons got into penalty trouble early on skating two players down at the seven minute mark.  Alyson Niebur was called for checking and a minute later Hailey Herdine was called for hooking. 
  • The Falcon defense stayed strong holding the Cobbers to only two shots on goal during the power play.    
  • At 10:24 the Falcons were down a player but Ashley Effertz saw a wide open Callie Hoff on the other end of the ice.  Hoff worked around a single defender and was able to sneak one to the left of an out reached Brittany Boss to get the Falcons on the board first.
  • After one period the Falcons led 1-0.
  • Callie Hoff scored her second goal of the day at 7:53 in the second period.  She was on the front right and sent one to the left corner of the goal to score.  Assisting on the play was Bella Wagner and Ashley Effertz
  • The Falcon offense applied the pressure for the next ten minutes putting ten shots on goal.  Julia Stelljes was finally able to find the back of the net when she made a shot from the back left and the puck skimmed the leg pad of Boss to ricochet in.  Assist on the play went to Abigail Stow.
  • The Falcons led 3-0 with 1:01 remaining in the second period.  
  • With 24 second remaining in the period Haley Nielsen flicked a pass from Bella Wagner to the upper 90 of the goal to push the Falcon lead to 4-0.  Also assisting on the play was Kathryn Larson.
  • Going into the third period the Falcons had a comfortable 4-0 lead.  They were outshooting the Cobbers 32-14. 
  • The Falcons again started the period with some penalty trouble skating two players down after Sophia Leong was called for checking and Callie Hoff for tripping. 
  • At 3:02 Callie Fargerstrom put an unassisted goal away for the Cobbers breaking the Falcons shutout opportunity. 
  • The Cobbers had two more power play opportunities in the third but the Falcon defense hindered them from scoring again.  The Falcons held on to win 4-1.
  • The Falcons had an impressive 42 shots on goal.  They were led by Callie Hoff who had two goals and five shots on goal.  Abigail Stow had an assist and six shots on goal. 
  • In Delaittre's sixty minutes of play, she had 20 saves and only gave up one power play goal. 

 THE OPPOSITION
  • Callie Fargerstrom scored the only goal for the Cobbers.  She ended the day with two shots on goal.  Amanda Flemming has six shots on goal. 
  • Senior goaltender Brittany Boss had 38 saves and gave up 4 goals.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
 The Falcons will begin WIAC conference play when they travel to UW-Stevens Point Nov. 10.  Game start will be at 2:30.
