Falcons Win Holiday Tournament

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons built a 20-point lead by halftime and used a strong performance from tournament MVP Julian Jackson to secure an 80-48 victory over St. Norbert in the championship of the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament in De Pere, Wis. Jackson had 19 points and six rebounds, shooting 8-12 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. His two made three-pointers equaled his season total going into the weekend. Austin Heidecker also made the all-tournament team after putting up eight points and six rebounds on Saturday after posting a double-double on Friday night.

UW-River Falls took charge of the game from the beginning, starting on an 11-2 run fueled by three baskets from Jackson in the opening six minutes. The lead was stretched to double digits when Alex Ohde knocked down a three-pointer to make it 18-6, and Jack Stensgard made it a 36-14 advantage after a two-minute dry spell from both teams late in the first half. The Falcons shot over 57 percent in the first half and knocked down four three-pointers, while St. Norbert shot under 30 percent and was only 1-10 from beyond the arc.

A 37-12 advantage in bench points helped propel the Falcons to a comfortable victory, but the lead was cut to only 12 points after a pair of free throws from Wade Geenen. UWRF responded with an 18-5 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from Matt Keller to go ahead 59-34 with 10 minutes remaining. The Falcons cruised to a 32-point victory after Tate Hebrink's layup in the final minute gave them their biggest lead of the game.

Ohde finished in double figures with 10 points and four rebounds, while Clay Seifert led the team with five assists. There were 12 different UWRF players that finished in the scorebook, and the Falcons finished with a 17-3 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Falcons finished their nonconference schedule with a 7-4 record and will began WIAC play when they host UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday night at Page Arena at 7 p.m.
