Superior, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey opened up a two game series at UW-Superior in the first round of the men's WIAC hockey tournament on Friday night. The Falcons scored four power play goals, seven unanswered overall as they won game 1 in dominating fashion 7-1. Six different Falcons scored goals on the night including
Peter Karavos tallying two in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons sustained some offensive pressure early in the period with a flurry of shots fired at the Yellowjacket goaltender, including a shot by Cayden Cahill that struck iron just under the 5 minute mark of the period.
- Jessie Brown was called for hooking at the 5:20 mark of the period and the Falcon penalty killers would step up to kill the Yellowjacket power play to keep the game tied at 0.
- The Yellowjackets broke the scoreless tie at 8:49 in the period when Daniel Litchke found the back of the net.
- The Falcons went on the power play at the 13:37 mark of the period when Jerry Miettunen was called for Elbowing. The Falcons generated some good chances on the power play but could not tie the game up at 1.
- Late in the first period a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct was assessed to the Yellowjackets' Brandon Barillaro for checking from behind.
- The Falcons took advantage of the power play late in the first period when Cayden Cahill scored the Falcons' first power play goal of the game with just 27 seconds left in the first period. The goal was Cayhill's 11th of the season and he was assisted on the goal by Brian Drapluk.
- The first period ended with the game tied a 1, and the Falcons having just over three and a half minutes of power play time left in the major penalty to Barillaro.
- The Falcons needed just 56 seconds of power play time in the second period before taking a 2-1 lead on Peter Karavos' power play goal. The goal was Karavos' 6th of the season and he was assisted on the goal by Terry Leabo and Aussie Miller.
- The Falcons continued on the major power play after the Karavos goal and as time on the major penalty was about to expire, the Falcons scored their 3rd goal of the major power play at the 3:31 mark of the 2nd period when Joe Drapluk found the back of the net to put the Falcons up 3-1.
- The game went back and forth after the Falcons pushed their lead to 2. The Falcons pushed their lead to 3, when Aussie Miller found the back of the net for his 2nd goal of the season at the 12:27 mark of the period.
- After the Falcons went up 4-1, both teams traded multiple penalties over the last 7 plus minutes of the period, but neither team could find the back of the net and the 2nd period ended with the Falcons holding a 3 goal lead at 4-1.
- The Falcons put the game away with 3 more goals in the third period. Their first came just over 5 minutes in when David Landau found the back of the net for his 3rd goal of the season. He was assisted on the goal by Cayden Cahill and Mitchell Vanderburg.
- The 2nd goal of the period for the Falcons came from Christian Hausinger at the 8:49 mark of the period. The goal was his 11th of the season and it put the Falcons up 6-1. After the goal coincidental minors were called to both teams and a 10 minute misconduct penalty was assessed to the Yellowjackets' Troy York.
- The physicality continued later in the third period when Connor Hamonic was called for UW-Superior's second 5 minute major of the game when he was called for contact to the head, he was also given a game misconduct penalty as well.
- The Falcons added their third goal of the period on the power play when Peter Karavos found the back of the net to put the Falcons up 7-1. The goal was Karavos' second of the game and 7th of the season.
- The Falcons grabbed control of the series winning game 1 in dominating fashion 7-1.
- Zach Quinn made 26 saves in net for the Falcons.
THE OPPOSITION
- Daniel Litchke scored the only goal for the Yellowjackets.
- Cole Skinner started the game in net for the Yellowjackets and made 25 saves before being lifted for Oscar Svensson who made 13 saves in relief.
