Men's Basketball's Comeback Falls Just Short at UW-Platteville

Platteville, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team traveled to take on UW-Platteville on Saturday night. The Falcons got off to a slow start and made a furious comeback in the second half but their comeback fell short as UW-Platteville got the victory over the Falcons 81-69.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded buckets early and the Falcons took a 1 point lead 5-4 just over 5 minutes into the game, after a made free throw from Alex Herink.
  • After the Herink free throws, the Pioneers went on an 22-4 run over the next 10 minutes of the half until 2 free throws by Julian Jackson made the score 26-11 with just over 4 minutes left in the half. The Pioneers would go on another run to end the half up 38-17.
  • The lone bright spot for the Falcons in the first half was from the free throw line where they shot 72% as a team 13-18.
  • The hot shooting for the Pioneers continued to start the second half as they built their lead in the first seven minutes to 32 at 56-24.
  • The Falcons began to chip away at the lead with 3-pointers by Matthew Timlin, and Isaac Castellano.
  • The Falcons got clawed back into the game when Alex Herink hit a three pointer with just over 9 minutes left to cut the lead to 18.
  • The Pioneers would keep the Falcons from cutting into their lead until the late in the game where the Falcons got within 10, with 40 seconds left when Jalen Greenlee hit a 3 pointer to make the score 77-67.
  • The Pioneers would hit their free throws down the stretch and picked up the 81-69 win.

  • The Falcons picked up their shooting in the second half, shooting 19-36 from the field for 52.78% and 50% from the three-point arc 10-20.
  • Alex Herink led the Falcons with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
