RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - A goal from
Kari Rollo in the 70th minute was enough to give the Falcons a 1-0 win on the road at Ripon College on Saturday afternoon. The goal was Rollo's third of the season and came off of a cross from
Jasmine Hunn that was tapped into the bottom corner for the goal. The assist was Hunn's second of the season.
The goal represented one of the few stats that separated the teams, with both taking five shots in the first half. The Falcons managed four of their five shots within the first 20 minutes but struggled to find opportunities in the remainder of the half. Miye Aoki-Kramer made five saves in the first half in goal for the Redhawks, while
Haley Crosby made two saves for the Falcons.
UW-River Falls went on the attack in the beginning of the second half, forcing four saves by Aoki-Kramer in a five-minute span between the 57th and 62nd minute, including two shots on goal by Rollo. Both teams traded shots after Rollo's goal, but the game ended with the Falcons closing out the Redhawks after having a 13-11 advantage on shots.
Crosby picked up her first win of the season by making eight saves and allowing zero goals. UWRF had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks and committed one fewer foul than the Redhawks. The Falcons are now 5-1-1 after the win, which is their best start to a season since 2005. They return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Winona, Minn., to play St. Mary's at 5 p.m.
