DUBUQUE, Iowa. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls volleyball team suffered two nonconference losses in Dubuque Saturday as they took on Lora College and the University of Dubuque.
In match one against Loras Collage,
Mallory Griffin had ten kills and 15 assists. Griffin's match leading performance was not enough as the Falcons fell 1-3 (16-25, 26-24, 15-25, 21-25). The Falcons won a close second set after outhitting the Duhawks .265 to .108. Overall in the match the Falcons had 33 kills and hit .131 compared to Loras who hit .169.
The Falcons jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first set of their match against the University of Dubuque but the Spartans answered back and controlled the remainder of the set winning 25-15. In set two, the Spartans got on the board first but the Falcons went on a five point run that gave them the lead throughout the set. The Spartans tied it up 24-24 but the Falcons took the match 26-24 after
Karli Nielsen came up with a clutch kill and Kara Wright had a bad set. Sets three and gour were controlled by the Spartans who went on to win 25-10 and 25-18.
Savannah Brauer led the team with nine kills.
Dakotah Poitra added eight and
Mallory Griffin had seven,
Hailey Huseth had 18 assists and
Hannah Robb had a team high 25 digs.
The Falcons fall to 10-12 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. They will play Finlandia University at 11 a.m. and Martin Luther at 1 p.m. this upcoming Saturday at the Hamline Triangular.
