RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team scored seven goals against UW-Stevens Point in their first WIAC win of 2019.
In the first period, the Falcons scored two goals in the final five minutes. The first came when
Jamie Bird scored on a pass from
Sam Young and
Alyson Niebur. Niebur turned around and scored her own goal at 18:15. She was assisted on the play by
Jamie Bird and
Sam Young.
Neither team appeared like they were going to score in the second period but with twenty seconds remaining
Abigail Stow found the back of the net. Assisting her on the play was
Ashley Effertz and
Madi Nolan.
The Falcons lit it up in the third period scoring four goals total.
Hailey Herdine scored the fourth goal at 3:50.
Callie Hoff was able to take advantage of one of the six power play opportunities scoring a power play goal at 8:44. At 13:09,
Jessica Bird put one past the Pointer goaltender increasing the Falcon lead to 6-0. Less than a minute later,
Abigail Stow scored her second goal of the night on a pass from
Erica Schramel and
Madi Nolan.
The Falcons outshot the Pointer 55-8.
Sami Miller improved her record to 7-1-0 and had eight total saves.
The No. 6 Falcons improve to 16-2, 4-0 and look to sweep the Pointers Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. Puck drop in 2 p.m.
