Men's Basketball Falls in Tight WIAC Match-up Against Whitewater

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – UW-River Falls carried a seven point lead going into halftime, thanks in large part to Jack Stensgard, who made all 13 of his points in the first half.  Ross Ingersoll also had an outstanding half, going 3-3 beyond the arc and finishing with 11 in the half. Collectively, the Falcons dropped eight three-pointers in the first half, going 61%, and 46% overall.  This effort got the energy going in the crowd during alumni night.

The biggest lead of the night for either team came from the Falcons going up by 10 with just under three minutes to go in the first half.  Eight of the Falcons first half points came from the free throw line as they went 8-8 collectively.  The Falcons were also doing on the defensive end with 5 steals, 3 coming from Jalen Greenlee.

Julian Jackson carried the Falcons in the second half, scoring 23 of his 29 points, making him the leading scorer of the game.  Austin Heidecker contributed ten in the half and Ross Ingersoll added 5 more in the half, ending with 16 on the night.  Despite this effort, Whitewater creeped back in the game slowly, shooting over 60 percent from the floor.  With 2:30 to go in the game, the score was tied at 80.  The Warhawks outscored the Falcons just 7-5 in the final two minutes, but it was enough to take the win.

The Falcons will be on the road on Wednesday, January 19, taking on UW-La Crosse, looking for their second conference win.
