RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - UW-River Falls put together their most dominant effort in almost a month during a 96-73 win over UW-Stout on Thursday night in Menomonie, Wis.
Julian Jackson had 23 points and seven rebounds, while
Austin Heidecker had 19 points and nine rebounds to help lead the Falcons to their second WIAC win of the season, both against UW-Stout.
The Blue Devils led five minutes into the game after two free throws from Luke Geiger put UW-Stout up 9-8. The Falcons responded with a 12-2 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from
Noah Hanson and
Jack Stensgard and two baskets from Jackson to go ahead 20-11 with 11 minutes remaining. Jon Ciriaks made a layup to trim the lead back within seven points with eight minutes remaining, but that was as close as the Blue Devils would get the rest of the game.
Noah Hanson had seven points off the bench in an increased role in the first half, and Jackson finished at the rim as the half closed to give the Falcons a 42-31 halftime lead. Jackson had 16 points in 15 first-half minutes on 8-10 shooting.
The Falcons used another 12-2 run in the opening minutes to go up by 21 points after Heidecker made a layup with about 16 minutes remaining. The Blue Devils made a small run to get within 13 points at 66-53, but the lead was back over 20 points after a 3-pointer from
Logan Halvorson with five minutes left.
Alex Ohde converted an and-one with three minutes left to go up by a game-high 27 points, and the Falcons finished with a comfortable victory on the road. UWRF shot incredibly well from beyond the arc, going 10-16 overall and 6-7 in the second half for a 62 percent overall mark. This was much better than the 30 percent rate for UW-Stout.
Geiger and Ciriacks each had 16 points for the Blue Devils, and Stensgard continued his strong shooting from beyond the arc by going 3-4 on 3-pointers. UWRF will be back on the road on Saturday when they travel to Stevens Point to take on the no. 20-ranked Pointers at 5 p.m.
