Box Score

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons couldn't find their first WIAC win of the season, falling 74-64 on the road at UW-Platteville on Wednesday night. Jack Stensgard led UW-River Falls with 18 points and knocked down five three-pointers, but he was the only Falcon to finish in double figures.

UWRF led in the early minutes of the game by as much as 8-5 after Stensgard knocked down two three-pointers. However, a three-pointer from Quentin Shields put the Pioneers up 10-8 and they led the game the rest of the way. The Falcons tied the game back up at 14-14 after a pair of free throws from Alex Ohde, and the game was back within two points at 22-20 after a jumper from Julian Jackson.

Nathan Macho, Jr. knocked down a three-pointer with thirty seconds remaining in the half to make it only a four point deficit at 33-29. Macho, Jr. made all three of his shots in the first half and had seven points off the bench. The teams traded baskets throughout the beginning of the second half, and the deficit was reduced to two points when Stensgard made another three-pointer with under 11 minutes remaining in the second half. However, they wouldn't get that close again and would ultimately lose by 10 points. The Falcons shot 35 percent from the field and 29 percent from beyond the arc, while the Pioneers finished shooting 41 percent overall and 42 percent on three-pointers.

Quentin Shields had a game-high 17 points and was 10-10 on free throws, while Robert Duax and Carter Voelker also each finished with 17 points for the Pioneers. Voelker also grabbed 12 rebounds and had two steals. Austin Heidecker had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons, but the team struggled with fouls as five players had at least three fouls.

UWRF is now 7-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. They will seek to pick up their first WIAC win against UW-Oshkosh on Saturday.
