Falcons Shut Out Pointers in WIAC Opener

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team shut out UW-Stevens Point in the WIAC opener this Friday night 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-STEVENS POINT
  • Abigail Stow led the night off with a goal at 4:15 in the first period.  She was assisted on the play by Reilly Springman and Hailey Herdine.
  • Stow started out the second period with a power play goal at 8:28. The pointers were called for hooking setting up the power play opportunity for Stow to score. 
  • Callie Hoff scored a minute later on a shot that we set up by Brooke Walker and Bella Wagner.
  • The Falcons scored two more goals in the third period.  Kathryn Larson scored at 1:40.
  • The Falcons were down a player when Sophia Leong was called for interference and the Pointers went on the power play.  Bella Wagner scored a short hand goal at 5:53.
  • The Falcon defense kept the Pointers from scoring on seven power play opportunities.
  • Offensively the Falcons had 54 shot.  Kiana Gilbraithh led the way with eight shots and Erica Schramel had seven.
  • Sami Miller collected her third win of the season in goal with 12 saves.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons travel to Northland College Saturday evening to take on the LumberJills.  Puck drop is 7 p.m.
