Football Ends Season With Win

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls football team played an outstanding game today despite windy conditions and numerous injuries. The Falcons went on to beat nationally ranked UW-Platteville Saturday 31-24.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Early in the first quarter, Ben Beckman's pass to Alex Wickliff was complete for a 6-yard touchdown to tie up the score. The extra point by Bobby Patterson was good
  • Starting the second quarter, Beckman's pass to Wickliff was complete, following with a pass to Luke Fugate who rushed the remaining 2 yards to get a touchdown for the Falcons
  • With 42 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter, Beckman made a pass to Alex Herink that allotted the Falcons their third touchdown of the afternoon, ending the second quarter with a score of 24-21 Platteville
  • Right out of the gate to start the third quarter, Beckman made a 39-yard pass to Wickliff for his second touchdown of the game bringing up the score to 28-24 in favor of the Falcons
  • At the start of the fourth quarter, amidst the incomplete pass for the touchdown, Bobby Patterson completed a field goal to bring the final score of the game to 31-24 Falcons
  • Ben Beckman had an outstanding 405 passing yards on 27 complete passes, as well as 41 net rushing yards. 
  • Alex Wickliff and Alex Herink led the receivers, pulling in 178 yards in 11 receptions and 116 receiving yards on seven catches respectively.  Both scoring touchdowns for the afternoon
  • Athen Ashton, Max Praschak, and Spencer Scott led the defense with 9 tackles each, with D Turner and Antoion Kaloha following with 7 tackles each
  • Kaloha had two interceptions and Dom Turner had one
  • Mason Craker had 150 kicking yards off 4 attempts, followed by Bobby Patterson had 116 kicking yards off 2 attempts
THE OPPOSITION
  • The Pioneers scored two touchdowns in the first quarter.  The first came on their opening drive of the game.  Colin Schuetz made a 25-yard pass to David Urke. 
  • The second came at 2:54 in the first on a two-yard rush by Donald Allender.
  • The Pioneers took a 21-14 lead in the second when they scored on a 6-yard rush by Wyatt Thompson. 
  • Colin Schuetz completed 31 of 53 attempts for 346 passing yards for the Pioneers
  • Tyler Knigge led the receivers with 126 receiving yards on nine receptions.
  • Jordan Zilbar had the most tackles for the Pioneers, coming in at 11 tackles for the game
