Women's Basketball Wins on the Road

NEW ULM, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's basketball team travelled to New Ulm on Saturday to face Martin Luther College.  The Falcons dominated the first quarter, scoring 23 points and ending the quarter on a 13-0 run.  They also put up a 10-0 run towards the end of the third quarter.  The Falcons opened up the fourth quarter with another 10-0 run, including two three-pointers by Jenna Zeman.  After the first half, Martin Luther never got within seven points of the Falcons.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons outscored Martin Luther in three of the four quarters, the most significant coming in the first, 23-15. 
  • UWRF made 16 of their 45 first half shots, hitting just one three pointer.  The hit 7-10 free throws in the half (70 percent).
  • They outscored MLC in points off turnovers 29-8, 19 of those points coming in the first half.
  • The Falcons had 20 points in the paint in the first half, 40 overall.
  • The Falcons went into halftime with a 42-35 lead. 
  • UWRF shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, including seven three-pointers.
  • The Falcons bench contributed 33 points in the game, 22 coming in the second half.

  • Jenna Zeman was the leading scorer for Falcons with 20 points on 8-17 shooting, 4-6 from behind the arc. She also recorded seven rebounds and five steals, with just one turnover.
  • Brianna Koop scored 15 points for UWRF on 6-11 shooting. Sydney Hein and Taylor Crissinger each added 14 points to the contest.
  • UWRF made 35 of 83 shots (42.2 percent) from the floor in the win. They went 10-30 from behind the arc, and hit just 8 of their 22 free throws (36.4 percent).
  • As a team, the Falcons gathered 39 rebounds and 12 steals.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Martin Luther College was led by Ally Platzer with 23 points. She shot 6-12 from the floor, including five three-pointers, and went 6-6 from the free throw line.
  • Emily Witkowski scored 17 for MLC and also had a team high 14 rebounds.
  • From the field Martin Luther shot 24-64 (37.5 percent) and 9-18 (50 percent) from downtown.  The also shot 74 percent from the free throw line, 14-19.
