Falcons Play Tight Game Against Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons and the Blue Devils played a play-for-play game Saturday afternoon with both teams scoring back to back. Although the competition tight, the Blue Devils ultimately edged out on top with a fourth quarter touchdown to win the WIAC matchup.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the Falcons opening drive Beckman rushed the final 41 yards to score the first touchdown of the game.  Patterson's extra point was good.   
  • The Blue Devils answered back tying the game up 7-7 with three minutes remaining in the quarter when Sean Borgerding threw a 25-yard complete pass to Levy Hamer. 
  • Stout took the lead in the second period when Borgerding connected with Hamer again for two complete passes for 30 yards. 
  • The Falcons tied the game back up when Beckman's 46-yard pass to Alex Traxler was complete for a touchdown with 4:43 to go in the 2nd quarter.
  • The Blue Devils started out the third quarter with a ten minute drive that resulted in a touchdown giving them a 21-14 lead.
  • Beckman passed to Alex Traxler for a 75-yard complete pass into the endzone to gain the Falcon's their third touchdown of the afternoon.
  • The Falcons tied the game again in the 4th quarter on a Bobby Patterson 22-yard field goal with 11 minutes left on the clock to bring the score up to 24-24
  • The Blue Devils scored one last touchdown in the fourth quarter to secure the 30-24 win.
  • Ben Beckman had a total of 319 passing yards and completed 24 of 44 attempts.  He had one individual touchdown, as well as two completed touchdown passes and 47 net rushing yards.
  • Alex Traxler had a total of 171 receiving yards and two solo touchdowns on eight attempts. 
  • Alex Herink and Alex Wickliff had 69 and 64 receiving yards respectively
  • Max Praschak, Ben Ertz, and Athen Ashton led the defense with 16, 15, and 8 tackles
  • Dominique Turner, Blake Gleason, Jake Wadman, Jacob Lytle, and Charlie Sanders all contributed 6 tackles to the defensive team
  • Charlie Sanders had 3 sacks for a total of 25 yards
  • Ben Ertz had 2 sacks for a total of 12 yards
  • Athen Ashton had a single sack for a total of 2 yards
  • Mason Craker had 244 kickoff yards out of 5 kicks
THE OPPOSITION
  • Sean Borgerding gained a net of 51 rushing yards for the Blue Devils
  • Kevion McDonald and Levy Hamer led the Blue Devils with receiving yards of 68 and 67 respectively
  • Kierre Rhodes, Luke Wilz, and Jake Schmitt led the defense with 8 tackles for Rhodes and Wilz and 7 tackles for Schmitt
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons travel to UW-Oshkosh next Saturday (Nov. 9) to play the Titans. The Titan's are currently 6-2.
