RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team had an opening weekend sweep of Finlandia as they defeated the Lions 5-1 Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FINLANDIA
- Sam Anzai scored his first collegiate goal giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead a little over a minute into the start of the game. He was assisted on the play by Tim Gelatt.
- Finlandia tied it up 1-1 in the final minute of the first period on a Connor Hannn short hand goal.
- The game remained tight in the second period with neither team finding the back of the net until the 13th minute when Cayden Cahill took a shot from Ryan Cusin. The goal would give the Falcons a 2-1 and it would eventually be the game winning goal.
- Ryan Cusin scored at the 16th minute on a pass from Christian Hausinger. The Falcons had the power play advantage after the Lions were sent to the penalty box for slashing.
- The Falcons scored two more power play goals in the third period. The first came at 15:05 when Christian Hausinger scored from a Jake Skolnik pass.
- Cusin scored the final goal of the night 36 seconds later. He was assisted on the goal by Hausinger.
- Kade Phipps made his collegiate debut in goal collecting 12 saves and only giving up one goal.
- The Falcons outshot the Lions 40-13 and converted 3 of 7 power play opportunities.

The Falcons host the Cobbers of Concordia College (Minn.) November 8 and 9. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
