Women's Hockey Opens Season in Dominating Fashion

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened the 2019-20 season with a dynamic 6-1 victory over Lake Forest College at home Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LAKE FOREST COLLEGE
  • The Falcons get on the board quickly scoring just seven minutes into the first period. Abigail Stow scores the first goal of the season for the Falcons. She is assisted by Madi Nolan.
  • Madi Nolan then picks up her first goal of the season just 44 seconds later capitalizing on a power play opportunity.
  • Senior Erica Schramel finishes the first period with her first goal at 17:30. She was assisted on the play by Callie Hoff.
  • The Foresters served three penalties during the first period, the Falcons were only able to yield one goal out of the three power plays.
  • The second period brought on more offense for the Falcons as Bella Wagner scores her first and second goal of the year. She scores her first just 56 seconds into the period on a pass from Brook Walters. Bella then scores her second at 18:22 on a joint effort from Brook Walters and Callie Hoff.
  • Abigail Stow strikes again with just three minutes remaining in the second period after receiving a pass from Kiana Gilbraith.
  • Lexi Morgan scores Lake Forest's only goal in the final period of the match.
  • Goalie Julieana Tarantino of Lake Forest completed 13 saves in the third period shutting down the Falcon's offense.
  • Sami Miller got her first win of the season. She had 23 total saves on the day.
  • Forester goaltenders Jacque Rogers and Julieana Tarantino had a combined total of 30 saves and gave up 6 goals.
  • The Falcons outshot the Foresters 36-24.

The two teams will face off again at Hunt Arena Sunday afternoon.  Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 P.M.
