Women's Basketball Grabs Win at Holiday Tournament

LA CROSSE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's basketball team travelled to La Crosse to participate in the UW-La Crosse Thanksgiving Tournament.  They got the win today against Finlandia University, 73-64. 

THE RUNDOWN
Final Score: UW-River Falls 73, Finlandia University 64
Location: Mitchell Hall, La Crosse, Wis.
Record: UWRF 4-2, Finlandia 3-7
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, hitting 12-27, including 4-13 from behind the arc.  As a team, the also hit 12-16 from the free throw line.  
  • Brianna Koop led the Falcons, scoring 12 points in the first half, including 8-8 from the free throw line. 
  • The Falcons scored 18 points off the bench overall, and nine in the first half. 
  • Overall the Falcons scored just four 2nd chance points in the half, 12 total in the game, all on 14 offensive rebounds.
  • The Falcons went into halftime leading 40-29. 
  • UWRF shot just 25 percent in the second half overall, making 9-36 field goals and making 2-13 three pointers (15.4 percent).
  • The Falcons were outscored in points in the paint 24-40, 10-16 in the second half. 
  • River Falls finished the game with 55 rebounds and 20 turnovers.    
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Koop was the leading scorer for Falcons with 18 points on 4-11 shooting, as well as 10-10 from the free throw line.  She also recorded five rebounds.
  • Sydney Hein and Crystal Pearson contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.
  • UWRF made 21-63 shots (33.3 percent) from the floor in the win. They went 6-26 from behind the arc (23.1 percent), and hit 25-35 free throws (71.4 percent).

THE OPPOSITION
  • Finlandia was led by Bailey Froberg with 16 points. She shot 5-12 from the floor and went 2-6 from the free throw line.
  • From the field the Saints shot 22-73 (30.1 percent) and 2-12 (16.7 percent) from downtown.  They also shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line, 18-21.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UW-River Falls will continue play at the UW-La Crosse Thanksgiving Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 1 against Lake Forest College.
