Falcons Just Short Against Lake Forest

LA CROSSE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's basketball team continued play at the UW-La Crosse Thanksgiving Tournament.  They fell today to Lake Forest Colleg,e 80-89. 

THE RUNDOWN

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons shot 42.9 percent from the field in the first half, hitting 15-35, including 2-9 from behind the arc.  As a team, the also hit 5-6 from the free throw line.  
  • Brianna Koop led the Falcons, scoring 16 points in the first half, including 3-3 from the free throw line. 
  • The Falcons scored just 11 points off the bench overall, and four in the first half. 
  • Overall the Falcons scored seven 2nd chance points in the half, nine total in the game, all on eight offensive rebounds.
  • The Falcons went into halftime trailing 37-48 
  • UWRF shot 38.9 percent in the second half overall, making 14-36 field goals and making 7-18 three pointers (38.9 percent).
  • Sydeny Hein led the Falcons in the second half with 13 points, including three three-pointers.
  • The Falcons finished with 32 points in the paint. They also scored eight points off turnovers, four coming in the second half off of four Lake Forest turnovers. 
  • River Falls finished the game with 35 rebounds and six steals.    
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Koop was the leading scorer for Falcons with 26 points on 9-16 shooting, as well as 6-7 from the free throw line.  She also recorded three rebounds and three steals.  Koop was named to the All-tournament Team.
  • Sydney Hein and Cassie Heinrichs contributed 18 and 14 points respectively.
  • UWRF made 29-71 shots (40.8 percent) from the floor in the loss. They went 9-27 from behind the arc (33.3 percent), and hit 13-17 free throws (76.5 percent).

THE OPPOSITION
  • Lake Forest was led by Kelsey Burton with 24 points. She shot 7-13 from the floor and went 9-10 from the free throw line.
  • From the field Lake Forest made 32-72 (44.4 percent) and 8-27 (29.6 percent) from downtown.  They also shot 85 percent from the free throw line, 17-20..
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UW-River Falls will travel to Michigan to take on Finlandia University on Saturday, Dec. 7.
