MIDDLEBURY, VT. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team faced off against the top ranked Cardinals of Plattsburgh State at the Cardinal /Panther Classic. The Falcons fell to the Cardinals 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PLATTSBURGH STATE
- The Cardinals scored two power play goals in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead.
- The first goal came in at 5:07, thirty seconds into the power play. Kathryn Larson was called for cross checking giving the Cardinals a power play opportunity that they took advantage of.
- The second goal came at 7:28 with the Falcons down two players on penalties. Julia Stelljes was called for tripping and then Madi Nolan was called for elbowing giving the Cardinals a 6-4 advantage.
- The Falcons cut the lead in half with a Callie Hoff goal at 14:35. She got the puck in the slot and buried a high shot. She was assisted on the play by Abigail Stow and Julia Steljes.
- The Cardinals answered back with a third goal in the second period giving them a 3-1 lead.
- Sami Miller made 28 saves for the Falcons. Cardinal goaltender Lilla Nease made 25 saves.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will face off against No. 2 Adrian in day two of the Cardinal/Panther Classic. The Bulldogs fell to host Middlebury in a shootout held to determined who would advance to the title game after an overtime tie.
