Falcons Double Up Marian in Season Opener

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's basketball team played host for their season opener against Marian University.  After a slow start, in which the Falcons only scored 9 points in the first quarter, the UW-River Falls women's basketball team settled in and found their rhythm offensively.  They also held Marian to just six points in the third quarter.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons outscored Marian in all four quarters, the most significant coming in the third, 34-6. 
  • UWRF shot just 35% from the floor in the first half, 15% beyond the arc. 
  • They outscored Marian 11-1 in points off turnovers.
  • The Falcons also dominated in points in the paint, outscoring Marian 20-6 in the first half.
  • The Falcons went into halftime with a 35-22 lead. 
  • UWRF opened the second half with a dominating 24-0 run, all within the first six minutes of the third quarter.
  • The Falcons scored 16 points off of turnovers in the second half.
  • The Falcons bench scored 24 of the team's 52 second half points.
  • UWRF field goal percentage jumped to almost 52% in the second half, and their three-point percentage jumped to 47%.
  • Overall the Falcons shot just 43% from the free throw line, going 10-23.    
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Jenna Zeman was the leading scorer for Falcons with 22 points on 8-17 shooting, 4-8 from behind the arc. She also gobbled up seven rebounds and had five takeaways with just one turnover.
  • Sydney Hein scored 14 points for UWRF on 5-15 shooting and Crystal Pearson and Brianna Koop scored eight each.
  • UWRF shot 33-78 (42.3 percent) from the floor in the win. As a team, the Falcons made 11 three-pointers and gathered 16 steals.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Marian University was led by Sierra Strope-Robinson with 10 points. She shot 3-7 from the floor and went 4-4 from the free throw line.
  • Madison Holdiman scored seven for Marian and shot 1-3 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
