Strong First Period Gives Men's Hockey Road Win

MENOMONIE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team bounced back from a defeat Friday night to beat UW-Stout Saturday night on the road.  The Falcons defeated the Blue Devils 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-STOUT
  • The Falcons came out of the gate ready to go scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the first period. 
  • Trey Bagwell scored first at 2:34 on a pass from Tim Gelatt
  • Cory Schillo scored thirty seconds later giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead.  Assisting him on the play was Jackson Nauss.
  • The Falcons took advantage of their first power play opportunity by scoring a goal at 7:23. Peter Karavos scored the goal and was assisted by Ryan Cusin and Cayden Cahill.
  • The Blue Devils scored goals in both the second and third period cutting the Falcon lead in half.  The first goal came in the final minute of the second period and then the second came at 5:49 in the third. 
  • The Falcons outshot the Blue Devils 32-28 and were led by Peter Karavos and Josh Arnold who each had five shots.
  • Zach Quinn got the win in goal with 26 saves. 

LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will finish the 2019 season with a 6-4-2 overall record and are off for the Holiday break.  They will return to action on January 4, when they travel to Northland College to take on the Lumber Jacks.
