EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team picked up their 9
th consecutive WAIC regular season championship Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire. The Falcons beat the Blugolds 4-1.
The Falcons scored early in the first period with
Haley Nielsen finding the back of the next at 5:59 in the first period. She was assisted by
Ashley Effertz and
Kathryn Larson.
Erica Schramel scored the eventual game winning goal in the second period at 1:50. The Falcons scored their third goal at 8:12 when Jessie Anderson scored on a pass from
Erin Olson and
Izzy Brosseau. The fourth and final goal came in the third period when
Madi Nolan scored in the final two minutes of the game. Assisting her on the play was
Kora Torkelson
The Blugolds got a lone goal in the third period at 9:20. They did outshoot the Falcons 26-21 but it was not enough.
It was a high penalty game with a total of 11 penalties being called. Neither team however was able to capitalize on the opportunities.
Sami Miller got the win in goal with 25 saves. She gave up the one loan goal.
Erica Schramel led the offense with four shots on goal and one goal.
With the win the Falcons take the No. 1 seed heading into the first round of the WIAC Championships. They will host No. 4 seed UW-Superior Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
