RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team is headed the WIAC Championship after defeating UW-Superior 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.
The Yellowjackets were the first to get on the board scoring at 9:02 in the first period.
Callie Hoff tied it up 1-1 at 17:40 when she scored a power play goal. Seventeen seconds later
Kathryn Larson gave the Falcons their first lead of the night when she scored on a pass from Jessie Anderson and
Erin Olson.
The Yellowjackets tied it 2-2 at 4:30 in the second period. They maintained that lead for the first half of the period until
Callie Hoff scored her second goal of the afternoon at 10:39. Her goal came a minute into the power play opportunity and gave the Falcons the lead.
Hoff scored a third goal at 19:05 in the second period giving her a hat trick for the day. She was assisted on her third goal by
Madi Nolan.
Reilly Springman scored the final goal of the afternoon at 18:17 in the third period. Assisting her on the goal was
Izzy Brosseau.
The Falcons outshot the Yellowjackets 34-19.
Haley Nielsen and
Callie Hoff each had five shots on goal.
With today's win the Falcons will host UW-Eau Claire for the O'Brien Cup on Saturday March 2. Time of game is still to be determined.
