RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team fell to UW-Eau Claire 3-7 Saturday night in the WIAC Championship.
The Blugolds scored four goals in the first period taking a 4-2 lead in the first period. The Falcons did carry a 2-1 lead in the first half of the period. Ashley Efferts scored a power play goal at 8:53. She was assisted on the play by
Hailey Herdine. At 11:28 the Falcons scored their second goal, a shorthanded goal by
Madi Nolan. The Blugolds tied it up at 12:13 and took the lead at 15:50. They scored their fourth goal at 16:10.
Only one goal was scored in the second period. The Blugolds scored at 12:01. At the end of the second period the Blugolds led 5-2.
In the third period, the Blugolds scored first with a goal at 9:47.
Haley Nielsen scored at 17:44 giving the Falcons their third and final goal of the night.
The Falcons had 39 total shots on goal and were led by
Madi Nolan who had one goal and five shots. The Falcon defense held the Blugolds to only 16 shots on goal but of the 16, seven were goals.
The Falcons, who finish the season 23-5, will wait to see if they receive a bid to the NCAA tournament. The NCAA selection show will be streamed live on ncaa.com Monday morning.
