Women's Basketball Loses in La Crosse

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons dropped their eight-straight WIAC game on Wednesday night when they fell 70-51 against UW-La Crosse. Jenna Zeman led UW-River Falls with 14 points, four steals and three assists, but the shooting woes for the Falcons were too much for them to stay competitive against the no. 25-ranked team in the d3hoops.com poll.

The Eagles scored the first 14 points of the game, and it wasn't until four minutes remaining that the Falcons got on the scoreboard after a layup from Brianna Koop. Koop had eight of the team's 11 points in the first quarter, but they still trailed 21-11 after 10 minutes. The deficit had only increased to 12 points at halftime, but 10 different players scored in the first half for the Eagles. UWRF was only 1-11 from beyond the arc in the first half.

Madelyn O'Brien made a layup to begin the second half to move the deficit back to 10 points, but that was as close as the Falcons could get the rest of the game. Taylor Paulsrud had eight of her 10 points in the second half to keep UWRF within striking distance, but they couldn't put together a run to make it a single-digit deficit. The Eagles stretched their lead to 18 points midway through the fourth quarter, and they held on to that advantage to wrap up the victory at home.

UWRF is now 7-15 overall and 1-10 in the WIAC. They will travel to UW-Platteville on Saturday for a game at 3 p.m. before finishing the season with two games at home next week. The Pioneers are the only team that the Falcons have defeated in conference play this season.
