RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – It was a battle of championship caliber Wednesday night at Hunt Arena as the No. 4 UW-River Falls women's hockey team took on No. 1 University of St. Thomas. The Falcons scored three goals in the third period, but it was not enough as they fell 4-5 to the undefeated Tommies.
It was the Falcons who struck first when
Abigail Stow scored at 12:16 in the first period on a pass from
Reilly Springman.
The Tommies scored four goals in the second period taking a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. They started out the third period with a fifth goal.
When it looked like the Falcons were out of the game,
Abigail Stow scored her second goal of the game at 4:41. Three minutes later
Bella Wagner cut the Tommies lead in half scoring at 7:31. She was assisted on the play by
Erin Olson and
Andrea Olson. Thirty seconds later
Hailey Herdine got the Falcons within one goal of the Tommies when she found the back of the net on a pass from
Ashley Effertz.
The Falcons were outshot by the Tommies 30-21.
Tatyana Delaittre started the game and had 11 total saves before
Sami Miller came in during the second period. Miller had five saves.
Abigail Stow led the offense with two goals and six shots on goal.
The Falcons who sit atop of the WIAC standings host UW-Eau Claire Saturday February 9. Earlier this year the Falcons defeated the Blugolds 2-1. Puck drop is 7:05 pm at Hunt Arena.
